Crystal Red Shrimp

I started keeping crystal red shrimp about four years ago. The niche hobby was mature but grading was just implemented and the highest grades you see today did not exist or were thousands of dollars. Not being a pioneer with crs made it pretty easy for me. The shrimp were on the expensive side, about twice the cost at the time I am writing this, so I did not have the luxury of starting with an instant booming colony. I purchased 6-8 which were A-S+ grade the first time around. Did not have much success because I was trying to hard.

I kept it simple the next time around. This time grading was better and prices were cheaper. I got 9-11 and some SS grade! This was a well needed boost which helped me get to where I am today. Ive bred up to SSS grade white worm shrimp. Solid white shrimp with no red markings is next.

The shrimp desire a few things to keep them happy. Cool clean water with a lower pH. It is really that simple.

Here you can see my ADA crystal red shrimp planted tank. This tank is very simple and just needs sunlight or desklamp and water. I keep my highest grades in a simple setup like this.
